Sights and attractions on the doorstep

Friedrichswerder Church – 1 min.
Built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the neo-Gothic style, the church today contains 19th century sculptures from the collection of the National Gallery
Unter den Linden – 3 min.
The famous boulevard in the middle of Berlin runs from the Brandenburg Gate to Museum Island. With its many restaurants and hotels, it is one of Berlin’s most popular sights.
Federal Foreign Office – 3 min.
The Federal Foreign Office is located in the immediate vicinity of No.3 Schinkelplatz – just a 3-minute walk away.
Humboldt University – 5 min.
Founded in 1809 by Friedrich Wilhelm III, Humboldt University is the largest and oldest university in Berlin. It was named after the scholars Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt in 1949.
Berlin Cathedral – 6 min.
Germany’s largest Protestant church in terms of area was built in 1894-1905 in the neo-baroque and neo-renaissance style and is now one of Berlin’s biggest crowd-pullers.
Red Town Hall – 12 min.
The red town hall was built between 1861 and 1871 and got its name from the red brick façade. Today it is the seat of the mayor and the meeting place of the Berlin Senate.
Hackescher Markt – 13 min.
Berlin is known for its backyards from the Wilhelminian era. The Hackesche Märkte are particularly beautiful, as passers-by can not only stroll through here, but also discover the small cafés, stores and even a cinema and theater.
Berlin TV Tower (Alexanderplatz) – 15 min.
The tallest building in Germany offers an indescribable view over Berlin and, with one million visitors a year, is one of the 10 most popular sights in Germany.
Brandenburg Gate – 18 min.
Berlin’s most famous landmark was built at the end of the 18th century in the early neoclassical style and connects the boulevard Unter den Linden with the extensive green spaces of the Tiergarten.
Reichstag – 21 min.
The seat of the German Bundestag was built at the end of the 19th century in the neo-Renaissance style and housed both the Reichstag of the German Empire and that of the Weimar Republic.
Potsdamer Platz – 24 min.
The traffic junction near Tiergarten was one of the busiest places in Europe until the Second World War. From 1961 it was divided by the Berlin Wall until it once again became an important hub in Berlin after reunification.

Theaters, concert halls and opera houses

Staatsoper Unter den Linden – 4 min.
Berlin’s oldest opera house combines 275 years of tradition with artistic modernity. Built between 1741 and 1743, it is considered one of the most beautiful buildings on the boulevard Unter den Linden.
Gendarmenmarkt with Konzerthaus – 9 min.
The concert hall, built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the classical style, is located on one of Berlin’s most beautiful squares, the Gendarmenmarkt, and offers you a varied program ranging from symphony concerts to chamber music and music theatre productions. The German and French Cathedrals are right next door.

Historical places and monuments

St. Hedwig’s Cathedral – 6 min.
Built between 1747 and 1887 in the Friderician Rococo style as part of the Fridericianum, the cathedral burned down during the Second World War and was only rebuilt in the 1950s.
Nikolai quarter – 9 min.
The Nikolaiviertel is the oldest residential area in Berlin and takes its name from the local Nikolaikirche church. Almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, it was rebuilt in the 1980s.
Holocaust memorial – 16 min.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe was inaugurated in 2005 and consists of 2711 concrete blocks. Located near the Brandenburg Gate, it is one of the city’s most impressive sights.
Checkpoint Charly – 19 min.
The most famous Berlin border crossing between the FRG and the GDR originally connected the American and Soviet sectors of Berlin and was the scene of some spectacular escapes from East Berlin during the time of the Berlin Wall.

Experience green spaces & nature

Pleasure garden – 4 min.
The 2-hectare green space on Museum Island has been redesigned several times since it was built in 1573. It is surrounded by the Altes Museum, Berlin Cathedral and Berlin Palace.

Spreerundfahrt – 7 min.
50 lakes, eight canals, 1,000 bridges and three rivers, including the Spree, make Berlin a city rich in water. You can take a cruise on the Spree at many landing stages, the nearest of which is right next to the Karl Liebknecht Bridge.

Large zoo – 21 min.
Discover the green heart of Berlin on a walk, a jog or a bike ride. Fill up on fresh air between trees, ponds and sights.

Museums

German Historical Museum – 2 min.
In the baroque Zeughaus on the boulevard Unter den Linden, the museum presents German history in an international context. It sees itself as a place of “enlightenment and understanding about the shared history of Germans and Europeans”.
Berlin Palace | Humboldt Forum – 4 min.
It used to be the main residence of the Prussian kings and the German emperors. Following its reconstruction in 2013-2020, it now houses the Humboldt Forum, which showcases various collections. The 360° view of Berlin and its cityscape from the roof terrace alone is worth a visit.
Old Museum – 5 min.
The museum, built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, is one of the most important buildings of classicism and contains the collection of antiquities and part of the coin cabinet.
New Museum – 5 min.
In the Neues Museum you will find the Egyptian Museum with the bust of Nefertiti, the Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History and part of the Collection of Classical Antiquities.
DDR Museum – 6 min.
The DDR Museum is one of the most popular museums in Berlin. It deals with life and everyday culture in the GDR
Pergamon Museum – 6 min.
The neoclassical building of the Pergamon Museum houses ancient Roman and Greek collections, the Museum of the Ancient Near East and the Museum of Islamic Art.
Bode Museum – 9 min.
The beautiful neo-baroque building is located at the northernmost point of the Museum Island and houses the sculpture collection, the Museum of Byzantine Art and the Coin Cabinet.
Old National Gallery – 6 min.
Around 2000 paintings and just as many sculptures from the 19th century are currently housed in the neo-classical building of the Alte Nationalgalerie.
